Home or Business Computers and Laptops
We’re here to help when your new computer or laptop needs setting up. We can transfer your existing email, documents, photos and music as smoothly as possible. You may even need us to set-up or install a new printer, software, antivirus or getting your backup in place.
Our maintenance service keeps viruses at bay, software updates monitored and makes sure your computer or laptop is running at full capacity so you can get more done efficiently. Or, should you require an upgrade, we can make sure you can still do everything you need to.
System Backup and Restoration
A System Backup is the activity of copying files or databases so that they will be preserved in case of equipment failure or some other catastrophe. A backup is usually a routine part of the operation of large businesses with mainframes as well as the administrators of smaller business computers. For personal computer users, backup is also necessary but often neglected. The retrieval of files you backed up is called restoring them.
If you want to set up a backup, we can recommend what the best practice is for your requirements.
Data Recovery
Data recovery is a process of salvaging inaccessible data from corrupted or damaged secondary storage, removable media or files, when the data they store cannot be accessed in a normal way. The data is most often salvaged from storage media. Recovery may be required due to damage to the storage device or the file system that prevents it from being accessed.
The most common data recovery scenario involves an operating system failure, malfunction of a storage device, accidental damage or deletion, etc., in which case the goal is simply to copy all wanted files to another drive. Another scenario involves a drive-level failure, such as a compromised file system or drive partition, or a hard disk drive failure. In any of these cases, the data cannot be easily read. Depending on the situation, solutions involve repairing the file system, partition table or master boot record, or drive recovery techniques ranging from software-based recovery of corrupted data, hardware- and software-based recovery of damaged service areas (also known as the hard disk drive’s “firmware”), to hardware replacement on a physically damaged drive. If a drive recovery is necessary, the drive itself has typically failed permanently, and the focus is rather on a one-time recovery, salvaging whatever data can be read.
Virus Removal
A computer virus is a malware (malicious software) that, when executed, replicates by inserting copies of itself (possibly modified) into other computer programs, data files, or the hard drive; when this replication succeeds, the affected areas are then said to be “infected”. Viruses often perform some type of harmful activity, such as acquisition of hard disk space or CPU time, accessing private information, corrupting data, displaying political or humorous messages on the user’s screen, spamming their contacts, logging their keystrokes, or even rendering the computer useless.
Computer viruses currently cause billions of dollars’ worth of economic damage each year and in response, free, open-source antivirus tools have been developed, and an industry of antivirus software has cropped up, selling or freely distributing virus protection to users of various operating systems. Even though no currently existing antivirus software is able to uncover all computer viruses (especially new ones), computer security researchers are actively searching for new ways to enable antivirus solutions to more effectively detect emerging viruses, before they have already become widely distributed.
If your computer has become infected, we’re here to help recover what’s possible and help you protect your files from it happening again.
Internet and Email Set-up
Initial internet and email set-up is an area that can be confusing. If it does not work “out of the box”, you are probably heading for lengthy technical conversations with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) causing frustration and wasting your time. We are specialised in setting up modems and configuring email and can quickly resolve any issues with your ISP. If you need to set up emails on your phone or tablet – we can do that too.
Remote Access Computer Support
The term remote desktop refers to a software that allows us to access your computer’s desktop environment from our workshop. You will see at the bottom left of our website an icon ‘Remote Access’ – if you click on this, you can download the software and we can take over your desktop. We can then talk with you on the phone and see what you are seeing to try and fix the problem.
